To anyone in North Carolina, this is perhaps the preeminent wine event of the year in early February (Feb. 4-6) Thursday evening is for wine dinners with a number of fine restaurants and a number of winemakers, importers, etc. Friday some of the local wine retailers will have visiting winemakers pouring their wines for free tastings and Saturday is a gala auction with silent auction and live auction items including relatively rare wines and special trips or dinners. Proceeds benefit Frankie Lemmon School (for preschool children with special needs.) I have signed up for dinner at Vin Rouge in Durham with Merry Edwards wines but there were at least six different dinners that tempted me and they include names like Steele wines (Jed Steele), Cakebread, Kosta Browne, Robert Foley, Switchback Ridge, an Italian portfolio, a French portfolio, Duckhorn, Ken Wright (Oregon), Pride Mountain, and Martinelli. I hope I will get to try Ken Wright's wines at one of the retail stores. If you are interested, go to
