WTN: Dry Creek Beeson Ranch Zin '04

by John Treder » Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:29 pm

I took this bottle to the local pasta joint, just because I decided to. It fit linguine with clam, tomato, leek sauce just fine.
Really excellent Zin. Round berry fruit, plenty of earthiness and scratchiness around it. 13.5% alcohol.
The wine club notes said the vineyard was planted in 1892 and is dry-farmed. Somehow, this bottle tasted fresh and young - whereas I sometimes find that "old vines" and "dry farmed" may add up to a wine that isn't easy to appreciate. Maybe I'm just too much of an old fart to want wines that are difficult to appreciate. Or maybe I'm just a California boy. I really liked this bottle and would happily open another if there were one in my cellar. $30.

Yup, John....love those DCV BeesonRanch and SommersRanch Zins....even better than their OldVine Reserve. This '04 was not a powerhouse of a Zin on release,
but it had great zippy/spicy fruit and classic BillKnuttle balance. Not surprised it's doing well.
