WTN: 2007 JM Boillot 'Montagny' 1er Cru

by Jenise » Tue Dec 29, 2009 6:44 pm

Pale yellow color. Served at cool room temp with a cream of wild mushroom, brandy and chive soup and green chile grilled cheese sandwich, the wine was subtle enough to be a good food choice and yet acidic enough to contrast nicely with the dairy in both parts of the meal. Stems and flint on the nose with lemons, steel and lettuce on the palate, the fruit seems shy at present but it was nonetheless in the 'good' to 'very good' category with our meal. Longterm, I would expect it to flesh out a little in the next few months and drink well through 2012 or so, but even if it goes unchanged it's an almost ridiculously good buy at the $11.78/bottle I paid.

There is so much good white burgundy on the market. I love white burgundy, it's too bad I don't like Chardonnay.

Good price, I paid about $15 for the '05 of this a couple years ago and thought that a decent deal. Thanks for notes

And some are crazy cheap these days, like this one (purchased on Wine Commune).

Jenise, where did you find it for that price? WS Pro lists it for $19 to $27.

As I said, Clint, I purchased it on Wine Commune--it's retail/auction. Not auction like Sotheby's, more like highest bidder come Sunday gets it. The price was set by the fact that I was willing to pay a few cents more than the other guy when the listing closed.

Funny, I'm not seeing any of that crazy cheap white Burgundy in my area. This wine goes for $24 at the nearest shop to me. Don't really want to get into the wine bidding thing, since the shipping is bound to be a prohibitive fraction of one's savings, unless you buy a case (which I almost never do).

That's a crazy price for this wine, Jenise. WineX has it for $19.99, and before that another small shop had it for $15.99. We recently had it at lunch, and we all were ga-ga over it. Just delicious.

What's great about Wine Commune is that you can bid on any number of bottles you please, and there are always enough good bargains for me to put together a case. I tend to manage my bids in order to end up with 10-12--nothing worse than winning 13. :)

Good old wine commune! I believe you do too--if I'm not mistaken, we split a lot of 06 Meyneys. :)
