i think that eguisheim is a must see place - small, old, quaint. there is a good winery on the east side near the public lot that had two great Muscats - but esp the reserve. nearly every winery and restaurant has muscat - even though it is only a couple of per cent of the areas production. i drank it pretty much every day. you have trouble finding it in the US.
I like colmar as a fairly central place to stay; but you may prefer something smaller. i like the restaurant du marche there - it is on the place de cathedral.
i found a hotel in michelin i would go back to - forget the name - about 2 blocks from the petit veneuse that has cheap covered parking. this is important as you cannot easily park on the streets.
