What wine or wine related gift(s) did we all get?

I got a bottle of Delheim Cabernet, some $$$$ to go to the wine store and some decanter cleaning beads.

How about you?

A gift certificate to a local wine shop and three bottles of wine:
2007 Sheldrake Point (Finger Lakes) Gamay
2005 Baron Nathaniel (Pauillac)
2005 Ch. Duhart-Milon (Pauillac)
I'm probably going to have to wait about 6-10 years to enjoy the last two.

A very fine Christmas with Laura and I receiving two bottles of Krug NV, 2004 Haut Brion & some 2001 Barolo. Other highlights include the Beatlese Mono boxed set and Harry Karis' new book on Chateauneuf du Pape. Laura also got a new digital camera as her old one had died this fall.

People rarely give me wine as gifts (probably a wise move on their part) but I did receive a bottle of my birth-year Armagnac from a friend in France.

My wife gave me a Riedel Pinot Noir Decanter. Having worked out a decanter is a good gift idea, she has now given me one each year for the last six years. Sadly we are running out of run to store them all. Stll they definitely beat socks and ties

Robert
I'm a fan of them for general usage - so quick and easy. Just watch out for older corks (which sometimes require a little subtle coaxing) and most importantly for artificial (i.e. plastic) corks, which can destroy the spiral all too easily.

Nice gifts Drew! What clubs did you get? And, did you give her a hint? :-)

My hint was three weeks ago when I gave her the purchased "Tour Edge Exotics" Irons saying "These would be nice for Christmas!" Two weeks ago I snuck 2 of the irons from the unwrapped box and played a round of golf in Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania, to "test drive them". Driving to the course I got a phone call from my wife stating that someone had broken into the house.....(long pause as my heart rate doubled) and two of my new clubs had been stolen! We both had a good laugh, she knows me too well. The two tested irons were wonderful.

I received Colombo Cornas and his CDP, both from the '07 vintage. I also received the Presedente CDP (sounds like I am saving up for an offline with JB) as well as the Riedel red glasses from Target and eight Riedel flutes! In adition my wife received two bottles of champagne and I got a few new corkscrews. A great Christmas if I do say so.

Daniel,

When in the heck was Armagnac invented anyway? :) I kid. That is a wonderful present.

As far as wines, I received a couple of Rieslings from my parent's recent river cruise in Europe.

I received a case of wine from WSJ gifts by an aunt who thought she was doing the right thing....didn't have the heart to tell her...

I turned (2) bottles into gifts at a party we stopped by during the weekend, and considering the wine that was out on display was Barefoot Zinfandel, I didn't feel bad...

We opened (2) bottles during the football games yesterday...the Pillastro Primitivo 2006...drank it was some pasta and homemade red sauce (gravy) that I prepared during the day...was pleasantly surprised...sweet, fruity and drinkable....

I received a Spinwine - a thingy that goes into the top of a wine bottle and decants and spins the wine as it pours. It says is is a 'proven process' for 'better wine' and you can 'taste the difference', so we'll be trying it out soon. I hadn't seen or heard of it before I received the gift and I'm intrigued.
I also received a Champagne/bubbles stopper and a bottle of Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve champers.

Wine-related I got a monogrammed wine-stopper and four nice bottles of wine from various sources...

2006 Shelter "Headwater" Cabernet (can't WAIT to try)
2006 Herzog Cabernet
2006 Dead Arm Shiraz
2007 Tohu Pinot Noir
Hello. My name is Carrie, and I...I....still like oaked Chardonnay. (Please don't judge.)

I received a mindblowing gift from friends, a 1995 Woodward Canyon Dedication Series cabernet (they bottle three cabernets, but this is their top of the line and my favorite Washington Cabernet).

I supplied the wife with an amazon wish list and to my surprise, she got most of the items on there, including Adventures on the Wine Route by Kermit Lynch and Reflections of a Wine Merchant by Neal Rosenthal. As a voracious reader (and writer), I"m happy to build a big wine book library.

One sister-in-law got us a thermal wine insulator/cooler which is great because our previous one is cut to ribbons; she was also nice enough to gift a bottle of Smoking Loon Pinot Noir, the thought of which was greatly appreciated. All my other in-laws know well enough not to buy me bottles of wine, unless they know me really well enough (and they don't). Fortunately, a business associate decided to splurge, and gifted me a bottle of 2006 Dariush Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, which I look forward to tasting some time.

In turn, I shared a bottle of Clos du Mont Olivet Chateauneauf du Pape 2007 at the Xmas table. I'm keen to open some 07s given the controversy of sorts over the vintage. Even by my own standards, I was overwhelmed by its powerful sweet fruit and wasn't entirely sure I liked it the way I wanted to like it. I'm opening a Domaine du Montvac Vacqueryas 07 tonight to see if one of the other local appellations can make a wine with a little more restraint.

Cheers and happy holidays

Tony
