Porter Style Beer

Michelob Porter - "All Malt" - 5.9% ABV - From the label "With a lineage tracing back to 18th century London, our Porter displays the creamy structure and hearty flavor that made this English style ale famous. This robust, all malt brew showcases bold coffee and chocolate tones with subtle notes of raspberry and pine."

Elaine brought a 6 pack of this home for her own consumption. I don't like Porter much, and I didn't particularly like this one. That said, it's a reasonably well made Porter, exceptionally well made if you consider the swill Michelob usually turns out. The tasting notes on the neck label are about right. It could almost pass for craft brew.

Worth a try if you like the style.

Alan - the best Porter I've had recently is "Edmund Fitzgerald" from Great Lake Brewing Co. (Cleveland) on tap. I had the bottled version, but it's not as good. They also make a "Burning River" pale ale that is pretty nice.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

I'm a big fan of porters (the beer, not the inept railway employees that is  )

The one that sticks in the memory most is Tim Taylors Porter, but it's rarely seen. Plenty of good xmas old ales around at this time of year, many of which are in a similar mould, though it's true that many push the alcohol a little further than most porters.

regards

Ian
