Some last minute Christmas shopping had my wife and I going around Bonifacio High Street. We stopped in at CAV for dinner and had a few tasting portions. These are impressions more than proper notes as we only took the smallest portions from the dispensing machines.
Clouby Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2008 - Green pepper and not much else. Nice but boring.
Chateau Cos d'Estournel 2000 - Funky, wet rag nose. Rich and full-bodied. Still a little tight but nothing that a bit more bottle age couldn't fix. However, I thought it was already quite excellent and drinking very well.
Cavalotto Barolo 2001 - Fragrant. Flavors of smoke and dried cherries. Healthy dose of refreshing acidity makes the wine really bright. Later, some tea leaf. Tannic but with a long sweet finish. Complex and layered. Excellent wine.
