Lean red berry fruit with notes of herbs, cassis, nice anise fruit, very tangy, great acidity and tannic structure, even some graphite/mineral "pencil lead" notes I really enjoyed. Awesome!

2002 Trinchero Family "Folie a Deux" St. Helena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Before the Trincheros bought Napa Cellars in Yountville and assigned the Folie a Deux label to middle-value wines. From a vineyard north of St. Helena proper.

A somewhat elegant wine, with balanced fruit, oak reticent, tannins resolving. However, unlike the tangyness and graphite notes of the White Rock above, this wine's fruit just seems a little sweet and simple. The lightness and elegance are nice, but give me that mineral edge!
