Snow to drink wine with....

by Drew Hall » Sun Dec 20, 2009 1:50 pm

Thought I'd share a few pics of our snowfall in Maryland...now which wine would pair well?

Yes Jenise, thanks. I shoveled the driveway by hand. Couldn't get the snowblower to start :x . We got 18" here in Bel Air which is approx. 18 miles NE of Baltimore and I know that accumulation would amout to a "dusting" for a lot of the folks here. We're not used to seeing this amount of snow so early in the season although snows like this are not unusual.

Only 18 inches, Mother Mature was kind to you. Here on Long Island NY we got up to 26 inches. The drifts though were the real killer up to 5 feet. Took me 5 hours to dig out two cars and get to the street. Thank God they plowed the street through the night and early this morning. This single snowfall beat out our 2008 totals.
Forget a chilled rosé, I’ll go with a “Big” Zin. Ridge 2007 California Sonoma County Three Valleys.

Yup, lots of snow here. My back has been killing me for a week now, since I've been packing boxes to move my office, so we hired someone to plow our driveway. Wine for us on this snowy night was a 1999 Sottimano Curra Barbaresco.

Whoa, yeah, we were supposed to be flying to Connecticut this weekend....but changed plans several weeks ago. We decided to stay in San Diego instead (67, partly sunny)!!.

Drew, the main part of your house looks a lot like the house my parents moved into at the time I was starting college. Is it yellow stone? (Of course they didn't had a pagoda or pergola or whatever you call that and they had ivy vines covering the north side of the house.)

It's actually brick that has flecs of various subtle shades of white throughout, Jane. The previous owners referred to it as "Chicago brick", but I've never heard of it. The Gazebo was added this year as the final part to a three year landscape project.

I must admit that after I came in the house after shoveling the driveway, what I wanted and got was a glass of Lagavulin.
