Snow on Montebello Ridge

by John Treder » Mon Dec 07, 2009 11:42 pm

I went out this morning and happened to look toward the Santa Cruz mountains and noticed snow on Montebello Ridge. It's raining again tonight, I expect there'll be more in the morning.
Is that good or bad for Ridge Montebello?

It's perfect! Time for the vines to get sleepy and quiet. The cold air and cooling ground are just what the doctor ordered!
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...

Thanks, Steve. That's what I suspected. It's reassuring to get confirmation from an ex-spurt.

I live on the same ridge, although 15 miles to the north- No more snow this morning (lots of frost) but yesterday morning was spectacular with all the snow on the redwoods. It doesn't hard freeze up here generally so vinifera is usually unaffected.

The ridgelines in Solano County had a lot of snow- (Vaca Mountains). Gone now...the temperature this morning was 22 degrees in my neighborhood.

Thanks, Tom!
It was 29 down here on the valley floor this morning. Frost on all the grass and rosemary bushes and roofs. The orange tree, lemon tree and lime bush are too big to cover, but they didn't die in 1990 so I imagine they'll be Ok.
