WTN: Ravenswood Old Hill Zinfandel 2004

On the nose, frying bacon, cocoa powder and tobacco smoke. Give this a bit of air. Sweet fruit and grippy tannins. This sits rather lightly in the mouth. Ripe crunchy red berries. Rhone-like dried herbs. Cocoa again. Quite complex. Virtually zero oak. Easy to drink. Firm structure due to the healthy acidity and tannins. Long, spicy finish. Could probably improve with a bit more bottle age although it's very good now. Those looking for a a big milk-shake style had best avoid this but those who like a more elegant expression of Zinfandel will be pleased with this effort.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

Sounds tasty.

I bought Old Hill through the mid/late '90s, but then moved away from both it and zin. I might have to revisit, as I have always liked the profile of this wine.

I have started to enjoy the aged old vine Zin's quite a bit more of late. We had a Carlisle that had been layed down for 3-4 years over Thanksgiving which was quite good and worthy of the 93 points or whatever Parker gives it normally. I should put together a review.
