WTN: Jacob's Creek Riesling Reserve

by Constance C » Tue Dec 01, 2009 3:04 pm

Jacob's Creek Reserve Riesling 2008, Southern Australia

Vibrant, pale green in colour with a bouquet filled with jasmine and lemon citrus aromas and hints of lime. On the palate, the wine is acidic, but balanced with fresh green apple and lime enhanced by floral and lemon citrus.

This tasting note is brought to you by Jacob's Creek.

I've just contacted them requesting an apology to Robin and the forum, plus an explanation of how this occurred and how they'll prevent it happening again.

FWIW when Fosters Wine Estates did a similar thing, their customer service manager stepped in with a sincere apology and has since been a positive contributor to a couple of Aussie forums. Let's see what happens here.

Oh damn. Listen, I'm the one who processed this person's registration a few weeks ago. Her name is actually Constance Chamberlain.

Jenise
I've no problem if this SPAM is deleted - I've sent the words used by VinoCC in my message to the offending corporation, so there's no great need to retain the offending SPAM. They've got all they need to see, but maybe posting the IP address of the Spammer might help their 'investigations' (I attached a link to this thread, so they'd be able to pick it up from there).

We can leave it up, Ian, to die quietly away from disuse. As it is, I doubt if it's going to generate any sales for Jacob's Creek. :)

Constance also posted on another website I frequent and got the same reaction about spamming. I think she got the message. She is a young woman who has acquired a WSET certification, says she is passionate about wine, and is jumping into the wine business. Hopefully any further tasting notes will be about wines she does not represent.

Good morning,

I apologize that I have not seen this before. I thought I clicked to be notified when responses were given, but I assume that is not the case. As JC posted, I have has response on another forum with regard to this. (Wines.com forum) I really meant not harm. As I said there, I was posting a tasting note with the intention in sharing a tasting note. Under no circumstances did I mean to Spam or cause any harm -- I saw lots of tasting notes posted and thought this was approved and acceptable.

Again, please take my apology. I do have a passion for wine, which is why, as I said on wines.com, I took this job. I am certified by WSET and am forever looking to learn everything I can. I do represent Jacob's Creek through marketing firm I work for, but I also tried to make it clear that the tasting note I wrote was my own - picked up from my own palate and I really believe in this wine.

Thank you JC for responding to this in my absence.

Best,

Constance C

Putting the past aside, welcome to the forum. We're glad to have you with us.

We just prefer that people not report on wines where they have a direct commercial interest.

Constance
Thank you for coming back and explaining and apologising.

I do think we need to make it very clear (even if you already fully understand) that wine fora are for enthusiasts to share honest opinions with each other. Promoting your business, or the business of anyone you have a business/financial relationship with is considered extremely unwelcome. Hence the reaction here and why I registered a complaint with Orlando/Jacob's Creek (a Ms. Harris is dealing with the complaint and I'm happy to PM you an email address for her should you wish to offer her an apology).

On balance I'm inclined to believe this was a naive and over-enthusiastic approach, that is I'm sure now a painful and uncomfortable lesson. That said, on the back of your apology, I've no desire to press the matter and will email Ms Harris to this effect. We all make mistakes (me very much included), so in that spirit, I'd like to offer you a warm welcome to the forum, to discuss wine in all it's forms. Your enthusiasm will very much be welcomed, and as long as you avoid any conflict of interest with your day job, I'm sure we'll turn this bad start into a positive.

With all due respect, and I don't mean this in a hostile way, your tasting note, absent of personal information ("we had this with dinner last night", say) and instead including the comment "This tasting note is brought to you by Jacob's Creek" suggests entirely the opposite. Anyway, we just thought that you were new to online communications and probably unaware of how obvious and objectionable spam is to most internet regulars. Not meaning harm, just naive. But that aside, like JC, welcome and we hope you'll chat and contribute. If you've already looked around and read other people's notes and discussions (read through the Open Mic on Cahors wines, for instance), then you've already got a good sense of the depth and breadth of wine knowledge on this board. Lots to learn from; it's why I come here every day.

Jenise

p.s. Next time you log in, use 'Constance C' for your username instead of VinoCC. I'm going to change it momentarily.
