WTN: Montes Purple Angel Carmenere 2003

This top Carmenere of Montes is actually 92% Carmenere and 8% Petit Verdot. Very dark, with aromas of ripe black berries. Flavor of chocolate, mocha, espresso and raspberries. Soft tannins and sweet oak that's well integrated. Rich and easy to drink. Long finish. Beautiful wine at peak now.

Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

I've been curious about this wine. Sounds like it's made from supermature grapes, though probably at the top of its class. I take it there was no lack of acidity, or any sense that it might have been acidified?

I'm not sure I know what to look for in an artificially acidified wine but this does not lack acidity although it is a bit subdued. It's definitely not a flabby wine.

I think it manifests itself as a sensation of separateness, of standing alone, as if the fruit is one room and the acidity in another, so to speak.
