WTn: Priorat ..what's not to love?

by JuliaB » Sun Nov 29, 2009 10:48 pm

I admit that the Beatles' anthology playing in the background is influencing me, I have to ask: Is the love you have, not equal to the love you make regarding Priorat? My first, Mas Igneus 00 was sublime. Tons of fruit among the tannins. I took my last bottle to a pre-MoCool gathering and felt it showed well. Now, lo those many years later, I find the 05 Onix shows equally as well. Whereas the 00 laid shag carpeting on the tongue, this lays berber. Be forewarned..your entire oral cavity will be carpeted , yet the candied apple fruit grenade will travel right down the midline and explode mid-palate to awaken all your senses. There you will sense black fruits lingering on the sidelines that you were you hence unaware. What is there that is not to love in a priorat?

Overripe grapes? Rustic winemaking? New-wave winemaking? Excessive alcohol?

I'm not saying that is all there is to Priorat. But you asked...
