2007 Grand Venur (Alain Jaume) CdR bib

by Bob Henrick » Wed Nov 25, 2009 7:51 pm

Has anyone else tried this wine? A favorite retailer (I travel 150 miles round trip to patronize him) put me on to it a couple months ago. Since then I have drunk a LOT of it. We all know that 2007 is a no brainer in the Rhone, and this CdR is not left out of that category. Today I picked up another case of 4 of the 3L BIB's and will drink them over the coming winter. The wine is the same as in the bottle, but instead of being $15+ it is a little over $8 per 750. Like I said a no brainer. This is imported by Fran Kysela, an importer who I think has taken larger price increases lately than I can even begin to understand, so I mostly am staying away from his imports.

David, I am having a glass of it tonight. It is the last of the 3 boxes I bought about 2 months ago. I need to try the Picpoul soon, but will let it rest a while before I do. I also picked up 2 3 liter BIB of the Picpoul known as Le Petite Frog. This I am told is the same wine that is bottled as Hugues Beaulieu and while it is not the bargain the rouge is, it is still a great buy at $30 for 4 750ml equivalents. for those who are not familiar with Picpoul, it is about as good as muscadet with peel and eat shrimp! And for a hot summer sipper, it's hard to beat. I love cheap wines that drink like $20+

The importers site on these wines can be found at: http://www.kysela.com/south/pomerols.htm AND here http://www.kysela.com/rhone/grandveneur.htm#AJCDR The CdR is almost 1/2 way down the page.

BTW, what did you pay for the box in Ct.?

We no longer can get Kysela wine s here in Oregon. After seeing some posts around on boards about the BIB I found out that my local distributor was going to dump the price. I got a few at $21. What a deal. I remember when my rep asked me if I could sell a box for $30. I said if the quality was good enough I would love to see it in our market.

It's a pity you can't get this Michael. The rouge is a really nice wine for current drinking, although I suspect it will go 1 or maybe 2 years. I am getting to an age that I am reluctant to buy many wines by the case, but if I could get it at $21 for the BIB, I would spring for probably 12 boxes, and that is in addition to the 4 boxes I have now. Why has Kysela pulled out of the Oregon market? Or, do you know?

David,
I wouldn't wait too long. BiBs are not impervious to the ingress of oxygen, so have a shelf life of a few months.
