That got your attention! Opened a couple of bottles of the Le Rote Vernaccia di San Gimignano for some rodeo folks here the other day. Vanetta and Vania are involved with various rodeo charities here in Alberta so do excellent work I`d say.
WTN: `07 Le Rote Vernaccia di San Gamignano, Italy.
Nice looking label, good natural cork, 13.5% alc, $20 Cdn. Food was penne in a creamed tomato, mushroom sauce. Very tasty and good match.
Color. Pale yellow, attractive.
Nose. Lemon, lime, cut grass, minerally, "wild flowers...white stone fruit" thought others. There was something else here like the nettle smell when I go butterflying?
Palate. Medium-bodied, sharp acidity, minerally, apple. Very dry, crisp, citrus zest finish..."not much tropical fruit here". For me had a savoury finish, almost like blackcurrant? Very enjoyable, have noted some excellent Vernaccias of late. Under-rated I think. Think there have been some successful changes here, anyone care to comment?
