WTN: Sancerre and Tocai Friullano

2005 Joseph Balland Chapuis,Chalillet, Sancerre. 13%

Golden green color. Wonderful aromas of grape fruit and an elegant cut grass. A citrus notes with a delicate toast back end. In the mouth is well balance acidity with a medium persistence. The toast notes be more strong when I drink it, and leave a mineral herbaceous flavor. Very predictable, but very enjoyable!!! Sometimes is good to feel a typical Sauvignon Blanc to regulate the palate!

2006 Collio Villa Russiz, Tocai Friullano, 15%

Vary pale, almost green color. Aromas of Lime, green plum, hints of pineapple and set smell of peaches. In the mouth a lot of nuts, peaches. Almost salty like umebochi (dry salt plum form japonese food). Lacking acidity to the high alcohol, but still enjoyable! My first experience of Tocai Fiulano and I don’t no if is this is a good parameter... sounds very good!

I love wines from both these regions. The nice things is that prices tend to be fairer and there are lots of producers to try from!

I would have problems with tocai at 15%.

I was wondering what might be the story behind that... Perhaps picking supermature grapes is not the (only) answer.

According to my note I realize that, because there is no over matured flavors... but i don't no what reason makes this with 15%...
Like a bastard comparison I remember the vin jaune... no elegance to start this mirror, but there is a salt strong typical way that I can remember. Just note that wine stay 11 moths on lias(no relation to the alcahol, but the taste shows that)...

I agree with the 15% issue. I love Tocai from Fruili but when purchasing wine I look at the alcohol content and do not purchase anything that is 14.5 or above so would never have bought this bottle. I may throw some babies out with the wash but there are lots of wine in the world and 15% just does not seem right, particularly with white.

For sure I did not purchase this, just try it... and i don't like either high alcohol in white wine, red wine... but I'm trying to say that this don't have the taste of late harvest... so if you leave the problem of high alcohol this wine is not a nightmare...
