Has anyone tried the new Georges DeBouef (sp) Beaujolais Nouveau yet? If so, care to offer a comment?

For the first time in my memory, some stores here in my area not bothering to stock any Nouveau this year.
For the same money I can buy a red Douro or even a bottle of Muscadet. Now, thats wine!!

Funny, my local store usually stocks the Brun Old Vines, but I was told Brun didn't make Nouveau this year. I wonder if there is something going on with Nouveau that I (we) haven't heard about?

Alan, earlier this year there was a big kerfluffle about Brun being denied AOC status for his BoJo (concerns about typicity, etc.). This may still be ongoing and may be why you're not getting any Nouveaux from Brun this season.

I don't know how much I would read into that. I've read reports on other wine boards of excellent BN from 09. And as you know, 09 is supposed to be a great vintage in general.

The issue at your local store may have more to do with local financial/wine market considerations.

Just saw on another board where someone reported on the Brun '09 Nouveau (saying how good it was and how it had portent for a great vintage). So I guess it's just you, Alan. Did you do something to offend someone that they are denying your Nouveau of choice???

Hoke - My wine merchant and I have had a mutually beneficial relationship for years, and besides he's at least as conservative as I am so unless he's decided I'm a leftie there isn't much I could do to offend him. :)

No, but I tried the Joseph Drouhin at a wineshop Saturday. It was okay but I wasn't tempted to purchase. (Believe it or not, instead I ended up ordering two bottles of cranberry "wine" after tasting a punch made with it.) I remember one year sampling Beaujolais Nouveau from DuBoeuf, Drouhin and Louis Jadot and prefering the Drouhin which was one to two dollars more expensive.
