From outside Naples, in the vicinity of Mt. Vesuvius, the red tears of You Know Who. (They also come in white.) DOC stipulates no less than 50% Piedrosso, with Aglianico (max. 20%) and another local grape ("Sciascino" or something?) also permitted.

Mostly clear, medium ruby with a fair amount of bricking. Some initial burnt shoe polish bottle funk blows off, leaving aromas of piney underbrush and lightly smokey wild berries, with hints brown spice and bark. Light- to medium-bodied and sorta tart, with cranberry and coffee acidity and a light coat of tannins on the finish. Not much different from a previous bottle, but this one may be showing some signs of minor heat damage. Still very enjoyable. $10 (and given the pricing at the store where purchased, it's probably cheaper elsewhere). 12.5% alcohol.
