WTN: Duband on the Run

by Oswaldo Costa » Mon Nov 16, 2009 4:53 am

2005 David Duband La Cerisière Bourgogne Rouge 13.0%
Strange, Sherry-Lehmann sell this as a David Duband wine, but his name is nowhere on the label, where all I see is Bottled in France for MHW, LTD. and Imported by MHW, LTD. Manhasset, N.Y. Wine-Searcher. Appelation Bourgogne Rouge Controlee. I only see it for sale at SL on Wine-Searcher, so must be a private label.

Very perfumed, with tart strawberry, cranberry and light church spices, reminiscent of Go4 Morgon. Juicy, fruity, good weight, lovely acidity, good grip. After about 10 minutes, as it warms in the glass, the perfume becomes a knock-out. I really, really enjoyed this. It has just the right amount of age by now, but should even improve. Private label or not, it spells out Σ FUN SERIOUS = PLEASURE and, at $24, makes benefit give cost a run for its money.

If the wine's good then all I need is a pint a day.

Well, I stopped by Sherry-Lehmann and grabbed a bottle on my walk home. My wife had us trek over to our local Chinese hole-in-the-wall for dinner and so this wine will not be consumed. We'll try this bottle sooner rather than later and hopefully tell my wife then that "baby, I'm amazed!".

Ramon,

When you do get around to the bottle please drink to me, drink to my health*.

Ramon, wait, wouldn't your local Chinese be Phoenix Garden? Plenty of Burg friendly options!

Oswaldo, I have some CdlRoche from Duband with his name on it, will save to drink w/you, so you can have an official Duband.
Sorry, all out of Wings puns!

Agree, David, this one's definitely obscure in spite of being in the biggest selling Wings/PM album (I think).

Nah, we went to a true hole-in-the-wall noodle place called Mee Noodle House on 2nd and 49th Street. It's our go to whenever we want something quick, tasty, and cheap. The soup-based or dry noodle dishes are really good, and so are the stir-fried in the wok stuff. I don't think it's the kind of place to BYO, as their MO is to present the bill and the fortune cookies halfway through the entree.

Besides, we just did Phoenix Garden last Friday, and agree that it's a good, casual, all-around BYOB place. BTW, their version of the Peking Duck, imho, closely rivals that of PDH, also in the neighborhood.

Had another bottle of this last night and it was just as lovely as the first. Must get more...

you got me. I started reading thread, enjoyed note. Then the Wings jokes sounded vaguely familiar. When I saw my own response, realized it was a resurrected thread. I'm getting old.
At least it reminded me I'm supposed to save my lone Duband to drink with Oswaldo.
