WTN: Briords - not really aged

by David M. Bueker » Sat Nov 14, 2009 6:10 pm

Needed a dry white wine for a marinade & for making fondue. A few years ago I got a great deal on 2005 Pepiere Clos des Briords Muscadet, so I popped one of those. Had a quick glass to make sure it was not corked. It's showing well now with still quite a lot of youthful fruit, and really very little that has changed from release. It may be a little bit rounder than it was a few years ago, but not much. Good stuff that seems to be "keepng" rather than aging. I'm intentionally leaving some to go a lot longer to see if I might like the stuff at age 10 or 15. Also opening a few bottles from odd storage conditions (not my normal cellar) as part of our 2 year WLDG aging experiment next April 1.

Thanks for the update. I thought about opening a couple of 2005 Muscadets this weekend (including the Briords) but then food plans led me elsewhere. And bravo for planning to keep some of this for another 10 years!

Have a bottle in th fridge right now...
and a case in the cellar.
Haven't tasted the 08 yet and need to do so; expecting to need a case of that too.

I've had some muscadet at 10+ years of age (Lunea-Papin). It certainly changes and arguably improves with age (depending on your palate), but nothing like German riesling or Loire Chenins. The question is: is it worth cellaring for so long? I'm still up in the air.

I do have a half case of '07 Briords sleeping away.

No, just ready for dinner some night soon.
Believe me, most of the (>40) bottles were recognizably culls and performed up to expectation.

>40 bottles! Not bad.

I guess Dan edited down to the highlights on Disorder.
