WTN: Nice Bourgogne with dinner

by Tom N. » Wed Nov 11, 2009 9:19 pm

Semi-transparent ruby red. Tart cherries with a smoky background on the nose. Clean tart cherries, clean acidity, and smooth tannins on the midpalate. A medium finish of tart red fruit. This is not a great wine but is a fine table wine, in my experience. Not overstated, just really well balanced :) .

With food: This is a great food wine. Excellent with grilled salmon (I basted it with a simple lemon/butter/garlic sauce). Also nice with sauteed mushrooms and brown and wild rice. This wine also is a nice sipper. Not luscious, but quite refreshing on the palate.

Wine: Louis Jadot 2006 Bourgogne. 12.5% abv. $23. Jay at the Wine Shoppe told me the salesman told him this wine was made with declassified Cote de Nuits wine. I was skeptical until I tasted it. I bought 4 bottles Oct. 30. I have 2 left. Need I say more?

Top to bottom I think Jadot does a really fine job.

Nice pairings both with the salmon and the mushrooms and wild rice.
