According to the History Channel, Discovery Channel and Nat Geo Channel, December 21, 2012 may be the end of the world according to Mayan prophecies. I'm still debating on what wines I may open for the big event. I should have some home made bubblies ready to drink by then. It may be a good excuse to splurge and buy a Chateau Margaux and wash down a steak with it. Maybe a nice Sauternes of TBA for dessert.

Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

I think I'll wait until 22 December 2012 and then toast the ancient Mayan priests with a glass of balderdash.

Howie - I don't know what I'm going to open next week, let alone on 12-21-12. What goes with human sacrifice anyway?

Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill! Definitely. If I'm about to die, I say let the roaches, alligators, and telemarketers enjoy the good stuff.

personally, I plan on being too exhausted that day to be able to drink, as my plan is to spend the first 3 weeks trading Mayan amulets for well stored wines owned by superstitious collectors. Next day, I'll probably pop an old MAYAcamas.

Of course, Mayan experts say there was no actual Mayan prediction, they just expected the calendar to cycle at that point. For those that believe that there was an actual Mayan prophecy, as the Mayans seem to have missed predicting both the mysterious collapse of their civilization about 800 years ago as well as the Spanish arriving to finish it off, why this date should get any attention baffles me!

I think it's entirely a New Age-driven phenomenon.

One should definitely pop the cork on a wine that has been well aged under a crystal pyramid.

I'm all for the end of the world. Sheeshs, I'm even in favor ofthe end of the universe. As to precise dates I'm willing to suggest 40 billion years for our little planet and about 100 times that for the universe. Consideringthat I have no intention (or possibility) of being present for either date, I'll put my wine planning on hold.

Thanks for bringing this up. I have run out of Mexican wine and need to re-stock in time for the end of the world!

Actually, you can figure a mere 5 - 6 billion years for the Earth (based on when the Sun will turn into a red giant, and if not then, when it turns into a white dwarf). But, the proposed "heat death" of universe won't happen for at least 10^100 years.

I shall have to remember to open some frivolous, ephemeral sparkler to celebrate the 12/21/2012 ending of the world.

We won't have to wait that long, folks. Sarah Palin has already said that hcr passing will be the end of the world as we know it.

So...something made from sour grapes?

Is that worse than the 1997 Glaetzer Shiraz (cuvee du hedonistic dried out American oak) in my cellar?
