Bad economy? What bad economy? Holy smokes. This is for only 6 people on Friday night. Nice little tip for the server there too.

Wow.

Even aside from the wine this is an interesting read. 3 orders of truffle tagliolini at almost $200 each? Parmesan chunks are $14, truffle carpaccio are $100, asparagus is $30, proscutto & mozarella for $34, Johnnie Walker Blue at $75 each. Yikes.

And 1 large water for $12.

Is this place newer? I do not recall the name from my Manhattan days.

Wow indeed. This is one place that s not going to have me darken their door, even if I do get to NYC.

Here are a few reviews that I found - about three loved it and the rest hated it!

Maybe better to visit Nello's place in CA. Now this guy looks like he knows how to run a restaurant!

Actually this was lunch for 6, I think the dinner prices are higher. I only recently heard of this place. Apparently it's part of that long tradition of UES places where the truly rich can feel like it's a club. Priced to keep out the riff-raff, but most of these places don't have reps for great food. Read Bruni's take on Cipriani:
http://events.nytimes.com/2007/11/14/di ... ani&st=cse

Apparently this lunch was the Russian guy who is buying the Nets. No idea what vintage the Petrus and Cristal was, so hard to know what markup is.

Dave, just for record, I'm pretty sure I've only paid more than $100 for a bottle of wine at a restaurant on 2 occasions. Both times was at Crabtree's Kittle, we were ordering as a group, and bottles were basically at retail! :)

I am surprised that a restaurant will disclose a customer's bill/tip like that publicly.

Salil,

That copy of the receipt is not signed so I am guessing that is the customer's copy and they disclosed it.

That looks like a different lunch...

[$825 for three orders of truffle tagliolini
$600 for four orders of truffle carpaccio
$210 for three orders of veal chops with mushrooms
$72 for six large waters
$15 for a bowl of chicken soup
$5,000 for a bottle of vintage 1998 Chateau Petrus
$3,600 for two bottles of 2002 Montrachet Latour
$3,750 in tips

Where did the original receipt (shown in the first post of this thread) come from?

Its certainly simple to create a ficticious receipt.

How do we know its real?

Good catch. And the 47k lunch attributed to yet another Russian tycoon.

The whole thing smells pretty fishy to me . . .

Well, he's buying the Nets. It's becoming obvious that, as in his restaurant choice, his taste runs the same in sports teams. :P

Oh, and just as an aside, I obviously have not ever been to these kinds of restaurant, but I figured that their bill presentation would at least be swankier than the cash-register type that's shown above.

Various sources say that Roman Abramovich added another $5,000 in tip, so the total was more than $52,000
See, e.g., http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/3 ... 40781.html

He should have spent the money on challenging FIFA's ban which prevents his football team, Chelsea FC from signing new players till 2011

Dale and Ramon - I disappointed that you didn't take Liz and me to Nello's in March - I would have enjoyed doing dishes after I got out of jail!

Jon: We'll try and line this up for your next NYC trip. We'll just have to figure out how to pressure them into accepting corkage-free byob.

Well, upon further review, it were the drinks that really pushed his tab up towards stratospheric heights. The food prices are quite competitive with some of the upper-mid-to-top tier restaurants here in NYC.

The sad thing is that I cannot imagine a $47,000 lunch that I would not be disappointed with. No matter what they served me, I would be thinking "I just ate a Lexus". Pragmatism is the working man's burden.
