A friend just got back from Michoacan. I was initially disappointed that the only intoxicants he returned with were some tequila and this bottle of a blend of cabernet and nebbiolo (at least that's what it looks like from the back label). $16 or so, 12% alcohol.

Deep purple color. Nice forward nose of cassis and cedar. Last night it was a little closed, with some nice cabernet fruit character backed with moderately firm tannins and not much else. I just poured a little from the remnants in the bottle and it's opened up quite nicely. The fruit character is a bit thicker and there's some really nice mint/spice in the mid-palate. The tannins are a little less clunky, having softened just a bit. Good acid balance and no evident overnight oxidation make it a very tasty wine right now.
