Having Braised beef short ribs served over asiago cheese and wild mushroom risotto

My (2) wine choices are:

2005 Monti Montepulciano D'abruzzo

or

2007 Boarding Pass Shiraz

I'd choose the Italian wine and save the shiraz for ribs or roast lamb.

It's of course mainly a matter of what you like, but for me would certainly be the Montepulciano with that dish.

I think it was the best choice, Mike. All other reasons aside, the higher acids in the Italian wine should cut through the wonderful fattiness of the short rib. Shirazes are typically lower in acid and therefore would seem heavier on the palate.
