WTN: Cafe Culture Pinotage 2009

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Oct 29, 2009 5:29 pm

WO Western Cape
KWV

Dark cherry red in the glass.

Quite smoky, tangy, cherry, brett with some chocolate on the nose.

Thick in the mouth, charred-roasted notes, spicy, black cherry and sour cherry, cranberry, some brett, tangy acidity, red licorice, crisp, with a real edge.

Mouthwatering and apples on the finish.

I really didn't care for this wine, although my wife liked it much more than I did and I have enjoyed previous vintages more.
I found the bitter burned notes aned the sharp acidity to be quite wearing in a fairly short amount of time. This wine has been praised by local critics for its mocha-chocolate aspects, but I didn't find any of that here.

Purchased at $13.95 (Canadian).

This wine has been praised by local critics.... not that Beppi chap, Bruce?

I have had an email run-in with him about his recent comments about Loire Cab Franc.
