After Planning Commission ended at 8;30, I just couldn't drag myself to the gym to lift weights. :? So, instead, I drank this Cali Cab with friends at WineStyles! Popped and poured, yet accessible! And...it was a nice surprise, with some balance and even elegance. Reflecting the cooler vintage, perhaps? Nose showed plenty of red fruit and anise, with a hint of red plum, NO VANILLA. No alcohol burn, either. Palate was even more restrained (for a Napa wine) with red currants and anise following through from the nose. Nice tannic structure and a hit of acid that kept the fruit in line. The tip of my tongue caught an interesting savory note on the finish. Quite elegant! 90 points+
