A pair of recent whites, with not a lot in common except that I really enjoyed both:
2007 Riesling Spaetlese Piesporter Goldtrofchen, Reuscher-Haart, Mosel:
Somewhat more gold than expected with a tiny whiff of petrol on the nose. A bit of spritz too. Lots of rich pineapple and guava offset perfectly with crips acids. Some firm mineral tones lurk in the background. Not sure it is a long term ager, but drinking well now. Really great length - an excellent spaetlese and a good value at $19. 9% abv with a glass stopper.
2008 Sauvingnon Blanc Tourine "Les Hexagonales", Jean Merieau:
Again, a bit of refreshing spritz with a light bronze color. Typical Loire SB aromatics with a hint of cinnamon. This tends to the grapefruit/lime end of the spectrum with a hint of grass and steel. Crisp and dry but not punishingly so. Very solid wine from an artisanal producer making it a great buy at $12. Synthetic cork, 12.5% abv.
