- 2003 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons Cuvée Guy Moreau - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru (10/24/2009)
Had a 2003 Les Clos from this producer, and it was still tight as hell, but this 1re cru was singing from the get-go. Gorgeous, classic chablis nose of flinty minerals, lemon, green apples. quince and butterscotch. The medium-bodied, slightly oily (in a good way) palate was filled with more minerals, with light butterscotch, honey, lime and a hint of oxidation that added rather than subtracted. Damn, this was nice, and reminded me why I have so much chablis sitting in the cellar. Great mix of minerals, fruit, acidity and secondary characteristics here - no fat 2003 chardonnay, this. Light gold in colour, with honey, pineapple, peaches, and lime on the lovely nose. A rich but elegant palate, nicely balanced, with pear, lime, apricot and lots of botrytis. Bright on the palate for a 2003 German auslese, with a nice long finish. Tasty! (A-)
