Chinon.
I love S.Rhones, Nimes, some Bdx but have no experience with the wines of Chinon. This one called my name in one of my wine haunts and mainly for the lower alcohol of 12.5%. I drank it slightly chilled and found it to be very enjoyable showing some red and black fruit tinged with hints of earthy herb and a touch of dark chocolate. This one was slightly rustic and initially showed a little heat on the finish. Paid around $13. I've read some posts by others about Chinon wines so what should I look for in these wines and should they be aged or enjoyed young? Also producers I should seek out? Thanks.

Breton, Baudry, Alliet, Joguet, Raffault.

Chinon is generally not as rich and heavy as wines from the Languedoc but there is a lot of variation across vintages (of course!). And most producers make a range of cuvees, from those that are for drinking young to those that are for aging.

Do a search in the archives and you'll find lots of recommendations.
