Pete, a local distributor's rep, brought in a bottle of 2005 Brancaia Tre, a mix of 80% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, and 10% Cab. I thought it was a little tannic, perhaps, but had that bracing tangyness and bitterness I love in Italian wines. Did not taste spoofy at all.
The 2006 Girard Artistry was a little hard to judge right now. Very raw and tannic. It may become a fine wine in time.
I brought in a wine that surprised me....2003 Penfolds "Regional Selections" Coonawara Shiraz. Not dead at all...instead some nice lighter red plum fruit and a ton of white pepper. Deliciously tangy as well... Still some structure. I think I paid less than $20 for this and I thought it rocked, especially over the evening!
