1998 Vieux Chateau Certan
Dinner with Francois Thienpont (of the same family that owns VCC), where this was served with some roast duck (I had a couple of bites left) and also Comte. Initially quite closed despite being double decanted several hours before. After 20 minutes in the glass everything changed, as the wine opened up into a silken robe of fruit, flowers & minerals. While I loved drinking it, I really did not need to, and a small pour lasted me through 8 or 10 sips of an amazing nectar. Balance and persistence with miles to go before it peaks much less declines. Stunning wine.
