WTN: Best Wine of the weekend

This weekend was Canadian Thanksgiving. We had friends over for dinner on Sunday night and Murray brought us a nice icewine as a present. We had a white and red wine with dinner. The white was a delicious Schloss Schonborn 2007 riesling kabinett (tasted more llike a spatlese to me) Hattenheimer Pfaffenberg. The red was also a joy to drink, a 2005 Nuit St. Georges pinot noir. But the 14 year old icewine was better than both .

Amber brown in color. Honey and peaches on the nose with a hint of spice (allspice?). Voluptuous midplaste of caramel, milk chocolate, ripe pineapple and a hint of honey. Beautifully balanced by the acidity. Long, luxurious finish of ripe tropical fruit and caramel.

With food: Great match with lemon sponge, which brings out the acidity and lemon fruit in the wine.
