WTN: 2005 Granite de Clisson

by David M. Bueker » Sun Jun 28, 2009 10:39 am

2005 Domaine de la Pépière (Marc Ollivier) Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Granite de Clisson
Richer and denser than other Muscadet I have tried (even from 2005), this is close to Chablis in terms of palate weight and makes a great match with grilled swordfish. It's also fabulous on its own, as there's enough flavor complexity to make it a pleasing glass with or without food. A great value given what is in the glass for such a modest price.

Almost Germanic in name length.

David, I found a note where (last year) Marc D decanted same wine for 6 hrs! Says it was still tight so yours is an improvement, grin wink.
You may have seen my recent notes on some `05s where I thought they were less bracing than usual. Jim Budd thought vintage scenario down there.

2005 certainly seems to be a less structured vintage, but when I compared this wine to Chablis that certainly meant there was plenty of acidic support.

So how long are you going to let this wine age?

I see a small gathering of Loire-heads here!! I searched Granite de Glisson via google. Lots of facts, thats for sure.
Any of you two specialists come across Perraud? 3 Muscadets just arrived in town.

Not very. It tastes quite good now. I think I can be convinced to let one sit until you reach the area.

As good of a reason as any! I guess life is too short to hold onto stuff forever..

And I have enough stuff that some of it is going to be held onto forever.
