Just read an obit. Died June 9, 2009 (guess I am late coming to this) at age 84.

One of my most memorable visits to Alsace was a half day visit to Hugel. Jean showed me and a newspaper reporter around for at least 2 hours and we finished up tasting an amazing flight of Gewurztrminers. Very entertaining morning indeed!
