Saviez Vineyards: Old Style Napa Hospitality!

My cousins were in from Scottsdale and they wanted to see Napa. Where to go to avoid the usual blah, blah? Well, I had met Mike Saviez at the last ZAP event in Fort Mason in January and he tendered an invite which I took him up on this Sunday. I have rarely been received more cordially in Napa or anywhere. And I strongly suggest that you try to drop by (appointment needed) next time you're up near Calistoga.

Mike's family has been growing grapes in Napa for over 100 years. They also have holdings down near Fresno. They have a website:

Saviez Vineyards

Check it out for yourself and put it on your "to do list." They have a broad palette of zins, but also some nice cabs and a refreshing muscat canelli. There are interesting stories to be heard. You get a great view of that funky Sattui Castle. And just sitting in the vineyard in the shadow of the mountain, well .... aaaahhhh.
