WTN: 2001 Anapamu Syrah Paso Robles California. Great QPR.

2001 Anapamu Syrah Paso Robles California. $11.00 at Beekmans, Glen Rock. Alcohol 14.4%. Apparently an E & J Gallo offering, although this is not entirely clear from the packaging. Predominatly Syrah with traces of 1% Petite Sirah, 1% Malbac, and 1% Tannat.

Despite its apparent parentage, a very nice robust Syrah, especially at this price point. Deep red color, deep hue, well blanced aromas of fruit, spices and bit of earth, very good fruit with hints of peper and tobacco, mild tannins (which have softened considerably since last tasted in 2004), mild acidity, good balance, medium mouth feel, long single note finish. Great with buffalo burgers and green peas, great sipping and watching the "House of Flying Daggers", an Oriental version of a combination of Robin Hood and King Arthur, ending in a snow storm and tragedy. Great images and camera work, enhanced by quite a pretty wine.

3* for wine and movie; excellent QPR.

Regards, Bob
