I know, I know. They say the difference between a rut and a grave is four feet. I must be two feet away. Of the 600 or so bottles in my modest cellar, 5 or 6 are Australian, the newest of which are 1999s, and most of these were gifts. Kind of a funny position for someone who got back into wine, after several years absence, because of Australian GSM. That was then.
Now, I just keep going back for different versions of things I like, or if I am in an experimenting mood, I tend to purchase wines from the same areas (France, Italy, Spain, Oregon) but from different wineries or made from different grapes. Or wines recommended by my merchant who knows my tastes well. I have avoided the Aussies, getting enough of those at various parties (you know, the cheap Shiraz) to conclude they haven't changed much.
But I made notes on some of the Margaret River stuff in the article. It may give me a chance to climb out of this rut.
