Friday Troll: Wiltinger Schlangengraben is the funniest wine

Apologies for my puerile sense of humor, but I'm sure I've never seen a funnier wine name than Wiltinger Schlangengraben:

Goats do Roam is funny, but made up and not in the same league.

sorry I don't have a label for this one (although I might have saved the cork).

Drank several years ago with giggling friends:

Call me juvenile, but I always have to hold back a chuckle at "Weingut Fuchs".

The literal translation is "snake's graves" , which is pretty strange apart from the way it sounds in English.

Sam,

German for Fox, it is pronounced more like 'fooks' than the alternative. Madirans Chateau D'Aydie made a wine called 'MAY DIE' which I don't think would sell particularly well in the US and I've never seen Weingut Pimpel on US shelves either. I think that sales of Styria's 'Weingut Gross' also probably suffer for the translation (despite being one of Austria's finest producers. The stuff is fuchin' great! :D )

Cheers,
Bill

Forster Schnepfenflug has always grabbed my funny bone for no apparent reason.

Thanks Bill. That's kind of what I figured, but at some level I'm still 13 years old. I giggled the entire time that I was in Phuket. :)

it's not only Germany. Chateau Le Crock probably wonders why they're not a bigger hit in US (or on a more geeky note the Bret brothers)

You wonder why they would even to DARE bottle something with a name like that.

Imagine the conversations:

Storeowner: May I help you?
Mr.Sly: I need to return this.
Storeowner: Why, may I ask?
Mr. Sly: The label has BRET written all over it!
