1998 Karl Lawrence Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa
This bottle did not show particularly well. There was a bit of cassis and black fruit along with a good dose of oak and cedar. Not a bad wine, just simple, and it just seemed to lack the verve that previous bottles had displayed. Perhaps some bottle variation, but also a distinct possibility this wine is showing its' age...it is a 1998 afterall. I plan on consuming my remaining 2 bottles over the next year or two.

1998 Sanctus, St. Emilion
What else can I say other than this is just a plain boring bottle of wine. Quite austere/uninteresting, little fruit and a whack of oak. Revisited this bottle over the course of 6 or 7 hours and it just didn't improve. Not recommended.

Paul:

Could that '98 Sanctus have been in just a "dumb" phase? I've not read much about the '98 St. Emillions drinking well now. I just finished off a 1996 Napa Valley C.S. that I'll post on shortly.
