WTN: Wit's End "The Procrastinator" Shiraz-Cabernet 2004

McLaren Vale. An 85-15 Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon blend.

Dark purple-almost black in the glass.

Rich and quite thick in the mouth, staining the inside of the wine glass a lovely rose color, juicy berry-cherry fruit, very spicy, cocoa, with a touch of austere firmness toward the end. Moderate drying tannins on the finish.

I know what you mean. It seems to me that Australia has cornered the market on "interesting" names, particularly D'Arenberg with names such as Stump Jump, Dead Arm, the Custodian.

I recall that Robin did a wine column recently on the way wineries are using cute animials on their labels to sell their wines. Perhaps he should also look at the explosion of strange-cute wine names.

They surely sell. Fat Bastard has been a huge success, for instance. And--is it Two Hands?--their "Bad Impersonator" had me pulling the bottle off the shelf to read the back label. I probably would have bought a bottle to gift to someone I who somehow fit that description. The Procrastinator? Gosh, I could give cases of that away.
