WTN: Les Salices Chardonnay 2004

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Jul 06, 2006 1:05 pm

Vin de Pays D'Oc (although the back label states that the vineyards are in Minervois). From Jacques and Francois Lurton.

Light golden yellow color.

Tangy lime on the nose.

Thick, rich and lightly creamy, lemons and lime, with peach and orange peeking through as the wine warmed. Peppery and good, edgy and tangy acidity.

Tangy, grapefruit rind finish.

Quite an intense wine. However, the last few glasses weren't as impressive after they were retrieved from the fridge following our post-dinner walk.

Screwcap closure.

Great value at $12.95 Canadian.

Also a great value at $9.99 US. Those clever Lurtons are also making Pinot Noir somewhere in the French Central Highlands for about the same price, although I haven't seen any of it in many months now. I can't pull up a note on it just now, but I distinctly remember a syrah-like note--which is fine by me. After all, Syrah has a long and distinguished history as a Burgundy adulterant. :D

Thanks Dave, will have to look out for that one.

I just picked up tonight a couple of bottles of the Les Salices Syrah and have tried, and enjoyed, some of the Viognier.

Good juice at good prices.
