Lately there's been a lot of talk about how well the 93's--a 'lesser' Bordeaux vintage--are showing, and we have needed to commemorate the life of a dear creature born that year, so I've opened these two.
1993 Fieuzal: not worthy of our Phoebe, unfortunately; dropping fruit in the midpalate and turning a bit parchy on the end.
1993 Clos du Marquis: this is more like it. More mature in color than the Fieuzal with orange rim. Nose of egg whites and graphite. In the mouth, plums, black cherries, Ticonderoga pencils and a little worn leather. Nice showing, and worthy of the occasion.
