• 1994 J&H Selbach Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer, Middle Mosel (6/29/2006)
  Very pale gold in color, but a nose of honeyed limes and pears, with a slight hint of petrol. Lovely balance on the medium bodied palate, with a long, lingering, slightly sweet finish. More limes, green apples, nectarines and slate on the palate. Lovely for a 'mere' negociant wine (A-). Sadly, my last one!

Lovely wine and a great match with what I'm told was a nice batch of gazpacho.

As much as I normally dislike negociant Rieslings, J&H Selbach do a pretty darned good job. I tasted through their range of '05 offerings about 10 days ago, and while not my cup of tea they were all well made and refreshing.

I was pleasantly surprised too. We rarely get aged bottles entering our province, especially German rieslings, so I just had to bite. I was very impressed that this negociant wine was going strong after 12 years, although it was a sigle vineyard wine from a great vineyard, which I don't think is all that common nowadays.
