WTN: 2004 Pepiere Muscadet Cuvee Eden

by David M. Bueker » Thu Jun 29, 2006 7:04 am

My first ever bottle of Pepiere, but it sure won't be the last.

Pale color. The nose is all about stones with a hint of melon and peach. The flavors also center around the mineral element, and the fruit is balanced against the acidity to make a VERY easy to drink wine. This is just plain yummy, and it has fine balance with sufficient stuffing to age for a while.

Outstanding QPR at $11.99.

I can't wait to try a bottle of the '05 Briords.

David--I'm curious how these will age. I've seen some notes on Muscadets with 10 years of age or more that are still drinking very well. What I don't know is if they get any better as they age. I'm debating letting the rest of mine take a long rest. Only problem is they taste so good now, especially in the hot weather.

They lose the sharp acidity and develop some roundness. At the case purchase price, this would be an easy experiement, no? Where else can one find ageworthy $10 bottles of white wine? Sounds like a 'no-brainer' to me :P

No sharpness in this '04 Eden, but it is true that it's a cheap experiment.

The problem isn't cost, it's storage room.

Also living in the hinterlands, I rarely find these on the shelves (even in Chicago) so the 4 I have were shipped in from CA. There is a limit to the number of cases that can arrive at my door before my wife passes out.

Anyhow the remaining 3 will be buried for a while yet.

Ain't that the truth. I wanted to buy some 375s of 2002 Jadot last night. I actually asked for spousal permission (shocking, no), and all that was asked was "Is there room?"

I lied and said yes.

I'll find space. I can still walk sideways in the cellar.

Florida Jim turned me on to Pepiere. Carole and I love both it and the regular bottling as well. Great summer sippers.

Anytime. Now you just have to keep me stocked with Muscadet. I should place an order for delivery on August 19th.

But you don't have any cellar room left, do you? Just let me know as I'm sure I'll be down to that shop a few times between now and mid-Aug.

In all reality I am almost sure I will be fine, given how much wine i do have on hand, but you never know.

I've not tasted the Pepiere Eden either, but plan to have the 2004 this weekend.
On the other hand, no stranger to the Pepiere Briords. I have a case each of the 2000, 2002, 2004, so anytime in the next 10 years you want to experiment...

David Bueker's home. Certainly trip to CT a small expense to taste an $11 bottle of wine!

Charles, you should get together with Bill there in Boston. You both can share the hot-tub with Lil, drink Muscadet, open a Pepiere, eat some mussells and have boat races with the shells!! Betcha the pink rubber duck will get in the way.

Gee, Bob, I like Muscadet a lot, but I don't drink it with duck.
I do drink a variety of wines with Bill and Lil though.

David...with all the white wine you drink, I'm surprised this winemaker wasn't on your radar. I have a magnum of the Eden waiting for the right moment to be opened..
Cheers, Jim
