Tonight I decided to open my only bottle of '98 Virgin Hills (AUS) that we aquired when in Boston 2 years ago when we picked up some '00 Bdx futures. This wine was a carbon copy of a '98 Bel Air Bdx Superior only better. At 12.5% ABV and somewhere close to its peak it was sublime. showing lots of damp earth, leather and ample black fruit. No doubt a Bdx blend and a well done effort. Served with a pork tenderloin and finished with a fresh blackberry cobbler, perfect!!

That is one of the most fun experiences in being a wino - opening an unassuming wine you've had in the cellar for a couple of years, and finding pure pleasure. It doesn't happen often - just twice this year, a '98 Ch. St. Martin and a '99 Allegrini Palazzo Della Torre- but it's really fun when it does.
