2007 Hart’s Wine Cellars, Gamay. This wine is made from Niagara-on-the-Lake (ONT) grapes. Howie was somewhat put out by the fact that a completion discounted this wine because of its color (somewhat pale for a red). We agree with him. Once you get past the eye, the wine is fine.
It gives you a variety of fresh young red fruit (strawberries, raspberries, cherries) on the nose and upfront. There is more fruit and very nice mouth feel in middle, and a short but pleasant finish. The wine is very comparable to a mainline Beaujolais the year after release.
We matched it with burgers and the last of our garden’s wax beans. Very nice for a Monday night!
