If you don't know what Dave's Quick Search Deskbar is, look here: http://www.dqsd.net . IMO it is THE tool for web search, and a host of other small tasks. I highly recommend it - it's now one of the first things I install when I get a new computer. My add-on allows very quick WS-Pro searches direct from your (Windows) desktop. If you'd like it, drop me a PM. It is writen from a UK perspective, but should be easy to change for other circumstances.
