WTN: 2005 Pepiere Briords

by Bill Buitenhuys » Sat Jun 24, 2006 9:56 pm

2005 Marc Ollivier, Domaine de la Pepiere Clos des Briords Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine
$12 Imp: Dressner, cork closure.
This was tight, tight, tight when opened but after a couple of hours it had all the refreshment of a soft mist from a high tide seaspray blowing into your face. Crisp, clean, seashells and mineral. So is this vintage of the most popular muscadet on the internet better than '04? I'd say the two vintages are comparable with '05 edging out with an outstandingly long finish. Really nice stuff.

I wonder will Pépière sell directly? I've been reading too many positive notes - but of course no one imports it here. I also need some Brun Bojos as I've been drooling over some notes.

Looks like I'll have to get some of that 2005 Briords. Hopefully there is some still around once shipping season resumes.

The 2004 Briords was opened at a small dinner party NJ and I attended last evening. It wasjust a delight to drink. Took about 30 minutes for it to get itself completely focused, but after that, the crisp acidity and minerality really blossomed. There were a number of nice wines at this gathering (Clape Cornas, Chappellet Cab, Archery Summit Pinot, SQN, etc), but the Pepiere Briords is the one I kept revisiting. The best part is this is available for under $15.

Otto, that sounds like a question for Joe D

Bill, you might want to put in an order and have someone hold it until shipping season. I know it gets gobbled up pretty quickly around here.

So it's not total infanticide to crack one open Bill?

Bob Parsons, where in Alberta are you? I will be in Banff later this year. Could I bring anything your way?

Nope, but it takes a while to open. A good 3-4hrs in a decanter should do it.
